EVOLUTION OF VIEWS ON THE CONCEPT OF “INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL”

Abstract. The development of the concept of intellectual capital began in the 17th century and continues to this day. There are many author’s definitions and classifications, which are determined by the practical and professional interests of researchers. Often used incorrectly, the language apparatus leads to confusion and indicates incompetence in a particular topic. Although there is no intellectual capital statement, some of its elements are reflected in various legal documents. Investments in intellectual capital are the basis for the growth of the economic performance of the corporation, employment of the population in the territory, reduction of unemployment, development of infrastructure and the emergence of communications in regions where there is none. The article explores the theoretical explanation of the concept of intellectual capital as an economic category, as well as the theoretical views of scientists. Many scientific papers and articles are devoted to the interpretation of this series, but there is still no consensus between accountants and economists on the issue of determining the economic essence of intellectual capital. This article presents the stages of formation of the concept of intellectual capital and the stages of evolutionary development. The implementation of intellectual capital, legal protection, evaluation, development of legislative and legal acts – determines the relevance of studying this economic term by economists as an economic category.
