Abstract. The article reveals the essence, meaning, and classification of the statistical method as one of the important methods of economic research. In particular, the stages of development of the statistical method in economic science, its significance, goals, and objectives are highlighted. The importance of modern economic statistics is outlined, its classification and their applications in economic research are given; highlights the main types of analysis developed in mathematical statistics and widely used in economic and mathematical research; the importance of assessing the reliability of statistical methods, their place and advantages among other methods of economic research are substantiated.
